Tumaini Community Orphan School is a children's developing center under the V.D.C (Village Development Committee) situated in Kilifi District, Kikambala Division, Maweni (A) Village, near Mombasa Kenya . The center for a period of time has been able to train children in scouts, girl guides, and girls and boys football. This has played a big role in people being aware of many children not going to school due to the following reasons;
1. The existing schools are very far from this area.
2 . Most of the children in this area are orphans or have single parents as a result of the AIDS epidemic.
3 . Most inhabitants are squatters of a private small piece of land practicing subsistence farming that hardly makes ends meet (possibly only covering their basic needs)
4. Most of the children in this area are learning to catch fish at the beach, follow the tourists begging for assistance and some digging, breaking and collecting stones to sell to rescue their lives.
For these reasons, the V.D.C. found the need of collecting the children together and starting them into the following projects and activities. Most importantly, an education in the classroom, teaching the children how to read and write both in their native language and English. Football for boys and girls, scouts and girl guides, choir, poems, drama, traditional dance and acrobatics.
The V.D.C. provides a piece of land especially for establishing any village development projects. On this land we have established a school called Tumaini Community Orphan School , meaning giving hope to orphans in the community. To date the enrollment of the school is 311 pupils and 10 volunteer teachers. All this time we have been operating without sufficient working materials; construction of proper classrooms, toilets, desks, tables, chairs, textbooks for children, teaching guides, stationeries, exercise books, pencils, pens ect... The most important of all these factors is food. Without food, children will not attend school due to their lack of energy.
For your kindness we are asking for your support to sustain our village development project. Our aim is to rehabilitate child behavior, keeping them off drugs, away from STD infections and to be a positive role model. Thank you very much for your kindness and support. Without it, these children will not be able to realize their full potential, and we believe that every child deserves a future full of promise.
